Do cash registers overheat? I reckon that’s a good question—because they barely stop ‘ringing’ on Christmas Eve before they’re in use again on Boxing Day (although in these days of so much electronic payments, do cash registers still ‘ring’?!). It’s very easy for us to critique our culture—that so much of Christmas has been turned into crass materialism. It’s so sad when a retailer talks about ‘a good Christmas’ being one where they sell lots of stuff. What an indictment of 2014 Australia. However, how much do I (& you) take part......

I was driving to work on Monday morning when I heard breaking news of a hostage situation in Sydney. I was watching all day to see what would happen, praying for a positive outcome. As I awoke on Tuesday morning I looked at the news to find that it was over, but not without loss. Two of the hostages were killed and the gunman himself was dead. Last week one of the main news’ headlines on News.com.au was about how a $700 gift for those living in Australia is becoming the norm for Christmas.
