Liberal, Labor or God? Who is the boss?

Well, we have a new State Government with the Labor party being sworn in this week. For some of us this might make us happy or it might make us really angry, while others won’t care at all. As I have been listening to people’s strong opinions over the last couple of weeks, it reminded me of a  national election years ago where someone asked a prominent Christian leader at a conference “who should I vote for?” His response was this,

“Do your homework, look at the Bible, look at their policies, pray about it and vote.” But he conditioned his advice with this comment, “in the end it doesn’t matter who wins, people can get so upset about who is in government.

We need to be lead by scripture in the end, and Romans 13:1-2 says this, 1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

So don’t worry about who wins an election, because God is in control and has put them there. And don’t let this divide us as Christians.”

I have found this to be very helpful with elections and who gets sworn in as our government. For, while I may not always be happy about who is in power and the decisions they make, I know they have been put there by God! And I trust completely in Him.  Also, this does not mean that I can’t express my thoughts and concerns with the government over certain issues. In fact, I try and write to the government regularly so they know what at least one person believes to be right or wrong in their state or country.
