Planning to Succeed
“Only 78 days till Christmas”! “Only 85 days until 2018”!
Ahh! Do facts like that scare you or make you feel tired?
We still have almost all of Term 4 to go. But this week as I was putting dates on my 2018 Planner, it hit me again about the importance of planning to succeed — but I don’t just mean for next year. I mean for now; this Term. And a great way to succeed this Term is to plan to get lots out of our What on earth am I here for? series.
“Another year is almost gone.” “Where did this year go?”
It’s so easy to waste time; easy, even, just to use up time — but to ‘spend’ time: being deliberate and thoughtful in making good use of this most precious resource God has given us. No, that doesn’t mean you need to have every minute of every hour planned out, but it does mean that your Lord wants you to be mindful of where your life is going. So please make good use of What on earth am I here for? (Woeaihf?) — read the short chapter in the book daily (probably only 10 minutes), learn 1 short verse each week (from looking at the key ring or bookmark), come on Sundays expectant, and make these a special six weeks in a Home Group.
“The more you put in the more you get out”
Your church is asking and urging you to make a special effort for this series — because you will get more out of it; it will help you more. But, we are also asking for a special effort because that will enable you to glorify God more, and thus our church, because as Day 1 of the Woeaihf? book says —
“It’s not about you. The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfilment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. It’s far greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose.” (P.21)
I’m busy; you’re busy — but we must not be too busy to know and then be living out God’s good purposes for us. Or else, no matter what you do, you will ultimately be wasting time, wasting your life. But God doesn’t want you to do that, he wants you to whole-heartedly take hold of and run with life in and for Jesus, His Son.
So … this Term: are you planning to succeed? I hope so. We can all make this last quarter of 2017 count for eternity.
