Remembering the faithful
It has been over a year now since IS attacked Mosul. Since then hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom are Christians have been killed or displaced. The brutal murders are still happening to men, women and children because of the name of Christ.
I am reminding us of this because it is easy to forget our brothers and sisters as time goes on. I know because I forget them, and it is important that we keep praying for them. What they face must be so difficult and our prayer should be that God carries them through and they continue in their faith. The New Testament is full of instructions to pray for Christians who are being persecuted for their faith e.g.
Heb 13:3 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
(Rom 15:30, Eph 6:18, Col 4:12, 1 Thess 1:2, 2 Thess 3:2, etc).
Friends, let us keep praying for God to strengthen these believers as they face harsh persecution. Let us support them financially. And let us share about their trials so many more can pray for them just as Paul shard in his time.
What this persecution shows us is how evil and yet present Satan is in this world, seeking to tear away God’s people. We have seen this recently in America with the shooting of 9 people in an African American church. Satan hates Christians and will attack them anyway he can.
For us in Australia we see opposition to God and living for him in – government, in culture, in friendship, even in our schools. Over the years I have had youth tell me that they have been abused by teachers for choosing to follow Jesus! They have been insulted for obeying the bible when it comes to denying themselves sexually and much more.
We don’t face opposition like those in the Middle East but we face it in other ways.
May we continue to pray that all of God’s people will be protected by his loving Spirit and stand firm in their faith, including us.
