The secret to long life

I heard an amazing story of a Japanese man Yasutaro Koide, born on March 13, 1903, who died two months short of his 113th birthday. So that means he was 112 years old! He only died last month.   You can read the article here: http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/worlds-oldest-man-dies-and-reveals-the-secret-to-living-longer/news-story/2b45c884e216fbb8bd5ec61110d74b7b

Yasutasro was interviewed just before he died. He was asked what the secret to living a long life was. His answer: not drinking or smoking and not overdoing it.

What I found most interesting was the response of the radio hosts who were reporting this story. As they reported this news they started tearing down Yasutasro for not living at all. They said if you don’t get drunk or overdo things how can you say you have lived at all? I’m sure we are not shocked by this but it is a little absurd? This man had lived to 112 years old and all the radio hosts could do was abuse his wisdom.

There response reminded me of 1 Peter 4:4  “They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.”

Friends, if this is happening in the secular world, how much more will it happen to Christians? We should not be surprised when we live for Jesus, not matter how big or small it might seem, there will always be people who will think it strange and abuse us. Take heart if this happens, if you are being abused for living for Jesus then you must be doing something right.
