All I want for Christmas/2019… is You?

I’m sure you’ve heard the song, ’All I want for Christmas … is you’. Well, Christmas is over, 2018 is almost done and 2019 starts on Tuesday. I hope that you had both a good Christmas and a good 2018 as a whole. But, what are you hoping for in 2019? The Apostle John said this to a dear friend of his — “I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” (3 John 2) This is my wish for you for 2019: good health, that things go well as a whole, and that your soul gets along well. But one of them is more important that the others: that your soul gets along well. I am praying that 2019 for the Wills family is one of good health (& good health regained) and that things go well. But, above all, I am asking God for the wisdom and strength to keep wanting that above even those two requests, that for the six of us our souls will ‘get along well’. I think John would have been delighted to read his fellow Apostle’s words where Paul says — “I eagerly expect and hope that I will … have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted …. For to me, to live is Christ” (Philippians 1:20-21) Paul was under house arrest or in jail when he wrote this, wondering if he would be executed. So, I think to myself — if he can will himself to live exalting Christ in those circumstances, what am I complaining about? I.e. surely I can too. And surely you can, too. For church I’ve been working on a document that’s simply called ‘2019’. I also have a draft ‘2020’. We also have many plans and desires as a family. This time next year we will see how many of them have been fulfilled! But, whatever happens in the next 365 days (plus 1), I want myself, my family and our church family to desire, seek and glorify Father, Son and Holy Spirit above all. What do you want for 2019?
