Rejoicing in Heaven

On my recent holidays, I went to Sydney. One thing I was really looking forward to was seeing my brother, who had a few weeks earlier become a Christian. When he first told me, I was sceptical. Was he really a Christian? Was he really serious about following Jesus? Or was he simply one of the first 3 soils in the parable of the sower (Mark 4:1-20)? I am overjoyed to say that he has such a strong conviction in Christ and as evidence, his life is very different. He lives for Jesus, obeying his word. He no longer lives for himself.

A verse that came to mind is Luke 15:7 “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”

That is a big statement. And a few verses later in verse 10 it says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Wow –  I want to be involved in this kind of ministry more. It is so exciting! God loves it when people come to salvation. The angels rejoice big time when people repent and come to Christ. I have pictured a party in heaven celebrating my brother turning to Jesus.

Friends, as I look to 2015 and even to Christmas, I am asking God to fill me with courage and wisdom so that I can invite people to various services and share my faith. Next year I want to be deliberate in connecting more with unsaved people, sharing with them the good news, so that there will be much rejoicing in heaven.

These verses, and my brother, remind me that God is preparing people for himself. He is preparing people to hear about Jesus and respond appropriately. He is growing his kingdom. You never know the one time you tell someone about Jesus might be the time they come to faith! May you consider how God is going to use you this Christmas and next year to connect with unsaved people, either through ministries we have at TGS or personally.  We do have a few new ministries on the horizon, but if you have ideas please speak to us about them.
