We all need hope; it’s as essential as air and water. When life is going well our hope can be for quite mundane things, but when we face trials, despair or darkness, hope – real hope, becomes far more important.
Our hope is in Jesus, the Son of God, the author and perfector of our faith. He lived on earth as a man some 2000 years ago and he still lives today; seated at the right hand of God, interceding for those who believe. In a world where it’s easy to feel helpless and that things are out of control, the Bible reminds us that despite appearances God is in control and that he calls us to ask him for help when we need it.
So how do we do that? Firstly, God already knows our circumstances because he knows everything about us. As our heavenly Father he watches over us night and day. God still wants us to ask though, because it’s in asking that we acknowledge him as Lord, that we acknowledge his kingship in our lives. We do this through prayer.
Nothing is impossible for God. God has infinite power and wisdom. It was his power that created the heavens and the earth, and his power that raised Jesus from the dead. He continues to use that power to achieve great things for his kingdom.
Jesus tells us, ‘everything is possible for one who believes’ (Mark 9:23). When he was on earth Jesus healed all who came to him. God still heals today, by his power and in the name of Jesus. We are to pray for healing and believe for healing.
When healing is not yet complete or doesn’t happen immediately, the Christian life is a matter of trusting – trusting that the grace by which we are saved is powerful enough to sustain us also. It’s not a case of needing to hold onto God but of letting him hold us.
The power of prayer is in the one who hears it, not the one who says it.
TGS regularly holds prayer groups immediately after services for all – including for healing. You are most welcome to join us. Also, please contact the office if you would like to be included in our regular prayers for healing each week.
