We’ve just experienced the great ‘high’ that is Easter: from Jesus’ sacrificial foot washing at the Last Supper that foreshadows his greatest sacrifice on Good Friday, to his glorious and powerful resurrection on Sunday that makes the Great Commission necessary and good. But now Easter is over and ‘normal (church) life’ might seem a bit ordinary. So, what should you do? You should continue to: 1) Thank, 2) Continue & 3) Serve [from Colossians]:

1) Continue to be full of Thanks to God — “We always THANK God, the Father or our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, [Why?] because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love you have for all of God’s people.” (1:3-4); Paul prays that they [we] will be “giving joyful THANKS to the Father, [Why?] who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” (1:12); “… and overflowing with THANKFULNESS” (2:7); “and be THANKFUL …. Singing to God with GRATITUDE in your hearts …. Giving THANKS to God the Father through the Lord Jesus” (3:15-17); “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and THANKFUL.” (4:2). So … Continue to THANK.

2) Continue in the faithPart of Paul’s prayer for them [us] is that they would have “great ENDURANCE and patience” (1:11); “CONTINUE in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.” (1:23); “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, CONTINUE to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught” (2:6-7); “Let the message of Christ DWELL among you richly” (3:16); “prayer for you, that you may STAND FIRM in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.” (4:12).

3) Continue to Serve — “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord … since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord … It is the Lord Christ you are SERVING.” (3:23-24).

– So, TCS @ TGS: Thank; Continue; Serve.

  • Easter was wonderful; post-Easter can be great, too, because each day, each week we can and should be thankful for Jesus dying for our sins and rising again. This enables you and I to continue in Christ, rooted and built up in him— each day. Then we can serve our wonderful Lord Christ— each day, each week. Of course, not all of life is or can be (or should be) a ‘high’ (as Easter was). But, day-by-day, week-by-week, month-by-month our Thanks, Perseverance and Serving brings much glory to Jesus, as we journey to the New Creation, where you and I will perfectly and eternally Thank, Continue & Serve our wonderful Lord and Saviour. So, happy Post-Easter!
